Plant Hardiness Zones what are they and what aren’t they.
#GardenLessons

The USDA Plant Hardiness Zones tell you the 30 year average coldest temperatures for your location. That is all. That means that a perennial plant that is hardy to your zone should survive the winter.

The Plant Hardiness Zones do not tell you any of the following:

  • The 30 year average high temperatures for your location
  • The 30 year climate for your location
  • The amount of or type of percipitation you can expect in your zone
  • How the elevation impacts the weather in your zone
  • What kind of soil you have
  • What plants will do well in your zone
  • What plants you are allowed to grow
  • When to plant your tomatoes
  • When to start seeds

I could go on and on and on…
