How many times can you use the lettuce stalk before it starts poducing bitter leaves?

The leaves will get bitter when the stalk stretches out. You may get two flushes of growth. If you jyst harvest individual leaves from the bottom it will last longer. If you want to be able to build a big salad you are going to want several heads going at a time so you can take a few leaves from all heads.
