Tips:

  • All seeds have a minimum, optimal, and maximum temperature that they will germinate at. Make sure your seeds are within the correct temperature range
  • Cold tolerant vegetables can be started inside and then transferred outside. You need to make sure that they are mature and then harden them off before putting them outside.
  • I do not use heat mats for my seedlings. I start the seeds and set them where they will get as close to the optimum temperatures as possible.
  • Most seeds do not need light to germinate but they do need light immediately after. The lights should be a few inches above the seedlings to make sure that they develop strong.
  • If the seed packet says surface sow, then your seeds probably need light to germinate.
